WAAAM Run Participants

GREG LARSON | At our May 23rd meeting, new member Rhonda Cameron suggested a potential cruise to Hood River to visit the WAAAM (Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum). Her husband, Rick, quickly picked up the torch and they began planning their first Corvette Cruise.

We left the Rite Aid/Wilco parking lot in Kelso on June 8th and 9:00 a.m. Six cars showed and we were picking up a seventh in Washougal. He is a friend from Rose City Corvettes who joined our last cruise to Tacoma. Our trip down I-5 to Hwy. 14 went well but we had a little “trouble” with parking at the Waterfront Park as there was an event going on. Rick Cameron led us East on Hwy. 14 on a beautiful drive to Bridge of the Gods and he paid the toll for the entire group. Thank you Rick, classy move!!

Finding the museum in Hood River was much more convoluted than we imagined and somehow we lost our President Emeritus, Don Evans!! The rest of us soon realized we didn’t have a way to contact him. Later he did contact someone saying he was okay and going home.

The WAAAM organization is really incredible. On the day of our visit, they had several antique and classic cars providing free rides around the grounds and we discovered they do on-site airplane restorations. The collection was very diverse, interesting, and immaculate. They told us that every single plane or vehicle was in running condition. We highly recommend giving them a visit for a great experience.

Along for the ride was myself, Greg Larson, Don Evans, Rodney and Savannah Rice, Goldie Valentine, Cheryl Sharkey, Gary and Robin Wright, Randy and Julie Free and our friend Alan Cohen from Rose City. Also, of course, our cruise Leaders Rick and Rhonda Cameron. A very special thank you to them.
